MONEY Magazine lists LAKE GEORGE as one of the top destinations in 2018!

Managing three visitor centers including two in Lake George, we have the pleasure of meeting people from all over the globe who travel to our beautiful destination.

On one day last year we met a couple from England, a family from Israel and travelers from the Netherlands right in our main office at 2176 State Route 9 in Lake George!

The Lake George Region is an international year-round destination with everything from natural wonders — including one of the cleanest and most studied and protected lakes in the world — to premier shopping, dining and attractions.

We were so honored to see MONEY Magazine rank us #8 of 10 best affordable U.S. destinations in 2018!

But you don’t have to believe our anecdotal information on why the Lake George Region is a top destination — even the numbers back that up.

MONEY magazine, which is published by Time Inc., analyzed more than 32,000 data points from “dozens of sources covering cost, year-over-year trends, and customer satisfaction,” according to the article. They mined destination information from travel publisher Lonely Planet. Click here to read about the full methodology.

“For the third year, MONEY has found destinations both in the U.S. and internationally that deliver the highest value for your dollar. Each spot is packed with must-do experiences and amenities but at a price that, relatively speaking, makes it a steal,” according to the MONEY article by Megan Leonhardt and Kerri Anne Renzulli.

Average round trip airfare to the Lake George Region was estimated at $439. By air, there are several ways to get to our region. Some aircraft can fly into the local Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury. Fly into the Albany International Airport about an hour away. Fly into one of the major city airports in places like New York City, Boston or Montreal and take AMTRAK or an Adirondack Trailways bus. Or fly into Plattsburgh International Airport only about 1.5 hours away.

Locally, Greater Glens Falls Transit operates buses and quaint trolley.

Here’s the paragraph about the Lake George Region from the article:

“Known as the southern gateway to the Adirondacks, this upstate New York haven really comes alive during the summer months, when it draws visitors seeking greener surroundings and a small-town vibe. Situated on a 32-mile-long lake of the same name, Lake George’s activities include steamboat excursions and ghost tours at the historic Fort William Henry Museum (adults, $18). Or you can tackle the 6-mile round trip “railbike” tour (starting at $80), pedaling your way through the dense Adirondack forest and across a trestle bridge. Treat yourself afterward with a visit to Adirondack Brewery, where you can pick up an IPA or seasonal specialties like hefeweizens and cucumber beers.”

Congratulations to the Fort William Henry Museum, Revolution Rail and Adirondack Brewery for this shoutout!
