The first snowfall heralds the start of winter fun in the Lake George Region. Cross-country skiers will marvel at the many trails in the area (including a network of lighted trails in nearby Glens Falls). Snowmobilers enjoy Warren County’s 100 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Check out the South Warren Snowmobile Association’s website for up-to-date conditions, special events, info and trail maps to link you across the whole State of New York!
Downhill ski and snowboarding enthusiasts can indulge their passion at nearby West Mountain Ski Area, Hickory Hills Ski Center and Gore Mountain. All combined there are over 125 groomed ski trails and verticals from 1000’ to 2300’ AND all within a 25-minute ride from the Lake George basin!
For a vigorous winter outing, it’s possible to tour the Lake George Region by snowshoe. Rentals and guide services are available in the area.
During February, the frozen surface of Lake George is home to the Lake George Winter Carnival. Held every weekend in February, the carnival features family events, motorcycle and four-wheel drive races on the ice, snowmobile jumps, and even a mid-winter swim in the lake!
Professional ice hockey is just down the road. The Glens Falls Civic Center is home to the Adirondack Phantoms a division of the Philadelphia Flyers. It’s top-flight hockey, just a heartbeat away from the NHL.
There’s no end to the winter fun that the Lake George Region offers. Whether you tour the area by snowmobile, cross-country skis, snowshoes, or horse-drawn sleigh in Lake George, you’ll find a place where winter can be as old-fashioned or as modern as you like.
