Saluting our veterans

This weekend in the Lake George Region we’re giving thanks for our veterans and honoring them with events and specials throughout the area.

“Field of Flags” Veterans Appreciation Week

The Fort William Henry Museum installed more than 5,000 small flags on the west lawn near the fort. The flags can be seen from Nov. 3 to Nov. 13, each one representing someone in the armed forces. On Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. a musket salute will be held on the field.

Prospect Mountain

UPDATE (11/11/17): Unfortunately the NYS DEC announced that due to “icy conditions” and a forecast calling for below-freezing temperatures, the parkway leading up to Prospect Mountain will be closed Veterans Day Weekend.

The public is invited to drive up Prospect Mountain for FREE this weekend in honor of veterans. The mountain will be open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. as part of the “Think Vet” initiative by local veterans. The Veteran’s Memorial Highway that leads up Prospect Mountain was built in 1969 and dedicated in honor of war veterans. The cost is usually $10 per car, but that fee will be waived to honor those who have fought for the United States.
