The Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway was built and dedicated in 1969 in honor of America’s war veterans. Along the 5.5 mile drive up, you can stop at three scenic overlooks titled: The Narrows; Lake George Panorama; and The Eagle’s Eye.

The cost to drive up the mountain is $10 per car. You can also hike the mountain. The trailhead is located near Smith Street in the village of Lake George.

When you’re almost to the summit, park your car and ride the Prospect Shuttle the rest of the way up for a spectacular 100-mile view of Lake George. If you’d rather hike the rest of the way, there is a paved trail to the very top.

The shuttle includes an informative video about the history of Prospect Mountain.

At the top you can discover the historical ruins including the Bullwheel and the Old Cable Railway. See the remains of what was once the world’s largest cable railroad from 1985 to 1903. The cable railway brought passengers for an overnight stay at Prospect Mountain House,a hotel once located at the summit that burned twice.

Please be advised that pets are prohibited at all NY DEC day use areas.
