Attractions for Fall
Nature sets the stage in Lake George during the autumn months. By mid-September, the landscape lights up with a technicolor foliage display that never disappoints. The mountains surrounding the lake blaze with flaming reds, oranges and golds, painting a vivid contrast against the clear blue autumn sky. This is a glorious time for hiking, for taking a boat cruise on the lake, or just car touring to take in the spectacular foliage. Sportsmen love the fall too. The area’s plentiful big and small game hunting attracts people from hundreds of miles away.
Against the brilliant backdrop, the Lake George Region offers a variety of special events. The sound of four-part harmony, an annual Barbershop Quartet Festival, fills the air on Labor Day. The weekend after Labor Day, Lake George Village roars back to life with the Adirondack Nationals Car Show.
The biggest event, held in mid-September, is the Adirondack Balloon Festival, rated among the world’s top 10 balloon festivals. Over 100 balloons from around the world will converge on the Lake George Region, with at least five lift-offs planned over a four-day period. This festival, as well as, the Lake George Jazz Festival weekend in Lake George Village, is a don’t miss.
Lake George takes on a German flavor in the fall, with Oktoberfests held at the Great Escape Fun Park, and Lake George Village. In early October, it’s possible to bag a great bargain at the World’s Largest Garage Sale in Warrensburg. October is also the month for the Adirondack Stampede Rodeo. Held in the Glens Falls Civic Center, the Adirondack Stampede attracts top cowboys from around the country.
